Audrey; learning all the important words first.

29th July 2014

I came home from work to find a drum session in full swing. I was thinking that I must get my kit set up as Edith would absolutely love it. I doubt the neighbours would have the same enthusiasm though.
Late afternoon was spent in Aunty Susan and Uncle David’s garden; a place the kids find mesmerising!

A snapped gear cable, 15 minutes in, made for an interesting ride to work this morning. I had a choice of three: ridiculously easy [legs spinning ten to the dozen], not quite easy enough and impossible.
Thankfully, my bike mechanic lives on my route home. Even more thankfully, he lives before the hill, on which our house sits. Therefore any fixed gear, leg busting, hill climbing misery was avoided.

The public face of The Roebucks™
Today the girls have been a pain in the arse from getting up to going to bed.
Tears, tantrums, whining, whinging, arguing and fighting in both unison and alternation.
But as always, you’d never guess from my photos of happy, smiling faces.
So, to keep up the facade; here are some photos taken today in the briefest of peaceful moments.

26th July 2014

A day at Wickersley Tigers / Sitwell Rotary Club “Family Fun Day” on Karens school field.
The “fun” took a while to come as everything is just so much bloody hard work with our two at the minute. I did ask myself why we had kids so close together.
Anyway, as the day wore on [and Audrey had slept] we started to have a great time.
A personal lowlight was ‘Gracy Gaga’ - a Lady Gaga Tribute act with a pseudo American accent and an outfit which left little to the imagination. I cringed as she requested that the audience, made up mostly of Rotary Club Pensioners, to “Jump around, Monsters”
I cringed even more when she leapt off stage and started to wander through the crowd. Edith was having such a great time, I was sure she’d spot this and come over. Thankfully, a girl next to us knew more lyrics than Edith so the attention was diverted away from us.
The last photo made me chuckle. Edith appears to be looking down my top at my impressive cleavage. I wonder where she gets that from?

It’s funny how a bit of sunshine makes the world a more beautiful place.
The first picture is the sun, bouncing off the impressive architecture of Sheffield’s new indoor market. The second is a beautiful stretch of canal on my way home. It could be anywhere when the sun shines upon it, when in reality it’s pretty grim [it’s where the “car island” scene from the Full Monty was filmed!!]

Forgive the picture of a potty full of tiddle but today has been a massive achievement for Edith.
Having refused for months to use the potty [she knows exactly when she needs to go, just won’t do it in anything other than a nappy] we finally had a breakthrough just after tea.
As her reward, she chose a prize from “Edith’s Potty Prize Area” [the Doctors idea] and was very proud of herself.
He she is with her prize on, proving that swimming goggles can make even the cutest kids look a little bit special.

21st July 2014

As a case of mine was pulled at the last minute, I decided to make use of our new flexible working conditions by only working 4 hours and finishing at 11:00.
After a warm ride home, I was in and changed [into a vision in linen] by midday and we had set up base camp in the park by 13:00.
We were joined shortly after by my Mum & Dad [who obviously didn’t get chance to relax in the sun] for football, golf, tennis and badminton. And running. Lots of running!
It was all too much for Aud, who had to have half an hour before tea time.
If only all Mondays were this much fun!

Mini Milks and Chocolate Chip Ice-cream with Ice Magic* topping.
Old school puddings all round.

*the stuff that sets hard [if you leave it long enough, which I never do]

Inevitably, it’s belted it down all day today; the first day of the 6 week holidays.
So we amused ourselves with crafts and the measuring of grandparents.

18th July 2014

School’s out in the Roebuck household.
Karen starts her six week summer holiday today, which means our childminder, Kate, starts hers.
I’ve noticed there’s wine chilling in the fridge already.

17th July 2014

The first harvest of our homegrown spuds.
From earth to mouth in under half an hour. Adding a sprig of homegrown mint, a knob of butter and eating with our alfresco BBQ tea made for a perfect end to the afternoon.
